About the Class:

A 75 minute gentle and healing yin yoga practice, which uses props for poses so you feel safe and supported. A meditative, mostly floor based class gives priority to the internal experience, rather than the external perfection of a pose. You move slower, stretch deeply, and feel each pose before you flow to the next. Throughout the class, your focus is guided to listen to the sensation of your breath and body to calm the thinking mind, release stress and anxiety. Each class ends with a delicious mini iRest® session.

What is Yin yoga?

It is a quiet, meditative practice of floor-based postures held for a longer duration of time.

Unlike other styles of Hatha yoga in which we mostly strengthen and lengthen our muscles with dynamic movement and shorter holds, in Yin Yoga we consciously relax the muscles around the area we are working -- mainly the spine and pelvis -- allowing us to shift the focus to the deeper connective tissues of the body, the ligaments, and fascia. Joints are kept mobile and stable. People with osteoporosis or bone cancer are discouraged from practicing due to the possibility of discomfort or injury.

Our classes and programs are funded by grants, sponsors, donors and clients who are paying it forward. Cancer can be expensive; we do not want finances to be a barrier to accessing our valuable programming. Pay-as-you-can with a suggested donation amount per class of $10-$25.

About the Instructor:

Iram is an iRest® instructor and a registered yoga teacher.

Iram loves to teach iRest classes to people who are suffering from insomnia, anxiety and stress. Living a busy life herself, she once wondered how, in today’s hectic world, does one find and achieve deep relaxation when it is needed most? The answer came to her when she personally experienced and benefited from iRest/yoga Nidra. That led her to explore and study this meditative practice of conscious sleep. She has come to the conclusion that if we can unwind our mind, we can heal our body.

Iram loves to spend time with her family and friends. She loves animals, nature, camping and hiking. She listens to world music and likes to travel, explore and appreciate diverse cultures. Her favorite words are “breathe, relax, smile and enjoy….”
